Winning Gainesville’s first open data hackathon

In 2014 I was invited to participate in Gainesville’s first open data hackathon and I didn’t hesitate to participate. I partnered up with a small team of Grooveshark employees for this event.

Free parking in cities has always been a mess, a lot of times the issue is not finding a space, but figuring out where you can park without getting a ticket. We decided to use the city’s parking availability data to create a responsive web application that would allow car drivers to find places where they could park at different times in Gainesville.

We ended up winning first place and being invited by the city to participate in Barcelona’s smart city app hack.
